However, I had a 5/5 dragon and a 0/6 lathliss (dwindle). He had done some damage to me after Sleep'ing my army twice (once with Salvager of Secrets bringing it back). The closest someone got me was 2 life, and he was at 9. (I remember playing against someone who Lich's Caress'd me 3 times, along with strangling spores, etc.) My opponents prioritized Removal, but I just had haymaker after haymakers. I picked up Timber Gorge pretty early, around Pick 5 or so and I got Rupture Spine after I picked up Vaevictus. I also got Vigilant Baloth pretty late, it tabled(!). I got Sarkhan's Unsealing Pack 1 Pick 3, Lathliss on Pack 3 Pick 2, and Vaevictus on Pack 2 Pick 6 (!) Pack 3 Pick 1 was Runic Armasaur (I wish I'd picked Hexproof Horse instead, but I wanted to see how good the Armasaur was (hint: it wasn't)) I had a stupidly good M19 draft (8 person pod) this Saturday. I opened Arcades, the Strategist and 1 wall.Īlso had Sai, Master Thopterist and barely any artifacts to write home about. And 2 other zombies/skeletons in the whole pool.Īlso had the 2 mana 2/2 looter in red. My pre-release promo was Liliana, Untouched by Death. I did swap out the 2/4 Lifegain priests in white for Naturalise + Plummet a bunch of times. I also had 2 Colossal Dreadmaws in my pool, but I decided not to side them in, and stay low to the ground. The only match I lost was to a player who had TWO (lucky bastard) Chromium, the Immutable in his pool (and good removal and other good creatures - the only game I got off him was when he didn't hit 7 lands). (or playing an aura / equipment on the 4/3 creature that can only be single blocked) I also had the White Protection from Black horse, but the protection didn't really matter - most of my opponents used red for removal.Ĭurving the 1/3 lifelinker into Oakenform is just boss. I had 2 of the Tap-Horses and 2 of the can-only-be-single blocked green creature. I used the +2/+0 equipment, and 3 auras: the "fixed" Rancor, Oakenform and the 6 mana rare enchantment that gives a creature +7/+7 and trample. My pool only gave me 1 flier in those colours: the rare 2/1 spirit. My curve topped out at 4, except for 1 card. I built an awesome low to the ground WG deck with 2 rares. Storming for 20+ without anything like Past in Flames felt great: At the time, it made me feel great because when you played against the guy with $200 worth of Wraths AND Damnations in his deck, it felt like you were punishing for justice with your pile of uncommons. I'm not going to pretend it's an awesome card, but it's harder to play around than you think, especially given all the spells we have today. My technique, however, was to slow the game down as much as possible and then use Mark of Eviction on one threat after another to strand something large enough in their hand. Locket of Yesterdays, otoh, was way harder to use than today's Barals and Electromancers. Fortunately, stuff like Rite of Flame and Rune Snag were legal. While I couldn't bring myself to play Red Deck Wins (and couldn't afford the linch pin cards), I was a storm jerk: back then it was legitimately difficult to kill someone with Grapeshot.
